Ah, the all important “exchange” that literally makes the universe go around because it sets the wheels of giving and receptivity of energy into motion. In the world we live in we no longer take a few buttons to obtain vegetables from the supermarket but buy them with a uniform currency called “money”. It is what we give that is accurately (hopefully) reflective of what we receive. That way, we maintain the balance of exchange.
Say for example, I have a banana tree that yields some of the most nutritious bananas that can appease hunger, and provide much needed nutrients to the human body, even some animals. The banana tree is happily yielding fruit which I am selling at a rate that reflects that value it is adding in the most reasonable way. One day, a poor little child without currency walks by, and without thought I give the child the banana. The child’s hunger is still there asks for another banana and another. Without wincing I continue to offer the child the bananas, until the child runs his belly looks at me with a tear, and thanks me. The value of the banana tree increases and the tree bears even more fruit.
This way, the banana tree feels fulfilled and of value. Suddenly, the size of the banana is smaller, the tree starts to shrink as do I. I wonder what’s going on. I recount the happening of the last few decades only to find that I have been teaching inadvertently for the banana to devalue itself, because I started to give and give more and more of the bananas regardless of whether the recipient was in need of these. Or indeed unable to afford the rate of exchange.
The banana tree and I became very sick, just as we were about to wither away, the universe spoke thus:
“Oh sweet child of mine, you have indeed created a self fulfilling prophecy of lack inadequacy a devaluation of the banana fruit by handing it out freely which has created an imbalance in the polarity on which the universe rests”.
We, often do this unbeknownst to us. Many, have taken to the path of altruism, holistic and more spirit based forms of adding value to the lives of others. Because we live in a society that believes in the power of the tangible and a university degree that qualifies one to offer the same, we value that more than the spirit that underlies the entire universe. What we cannot see or fathom we don’t value. And those of us like the banana vendor serve to spiral further imbalance by offering to give away the value of spirit by giving it away without acknowledging its value let alone in the vendors own time and energy spent.
The imbalance in exchange exists for many reasons stemming from a lack of value of oneself, and even a desire to distribute that fruit in the hope that everyone will benefit. Except, when the value is not somehow reflected back, this creates sort of devaluation. And this happens to both the receiver and the giver. So neither will in fact enjoy any lasting effects of the fruit.
Exchange is absolutely essential in all aspects of life. When we start to give away more of ourselves, that turns at us for creating an abuse of what we are giving away. One must value what one possesses and in turn adds value to another; only then can there be a healthy exchange when one can move from surviving to thriving.
If you have a gift of healing, nurture it, but, don’t abuse it, give it, but ensure you receive currency in return. Because, if you don’t, your boundaries will vanish, the value of your gift will diminish, and you will create a pattern of spiritual debt.
Value your time, your resources, your gifts and skills, and those that value this back, will be ingratiated.
Anywhere in your life that is creating an imbalance? How we decide to balance the what we received and what we have reflects our awareness of our own value system. There is always opportunity to make amends to restore balance. Do you need to give? Maybe receive?
