Being a highly sensitive person mother parent child and more has become something of a label or a comfort to some to explain their overwhelm overload and super sonic full on feeling powers so much so they might even become enmeshed with others stuff if you throw in empathy too. Wow! Just imagine living with such intensity, you feel life with such magnitude, your radar is far reaching, your senses miss nothing, and you don’t even know what you have taken on because you are a living “sponge”! Naturally, you might be living on a higher than high and a lower than low so much so it almost mimics bipolar tendencies, even attention disorders. But, we know it’s not a disorder to be highly sensitive.
How do we know though, whether we are simply taking comfort in something to explain our higher than anxiety and very active stress response down to us being highly sensitive and therefore very empathic or could it be that we have an enlarged amygdala (part of brain that regulates emotion and stress response) because we were exposed to infantile stress or that we didn’t have a secure enough attachment and environment making us prone to and susceptible to thinking danger is lurking even when it’s not, and then it really does happen because well, ermmmm it is a self fulfilling prophecy since we are master manifesting machines with co creative potential?
Pause.
Long sentence.
The difference between highly sensitive people that are pathologically different even in how the brain is wired, is one of creativity. When we are traumatised and therefore more anxious or avoidant and less vulnerable or too gullible, our creativity is rarely engaged because we cannot access that in the chaos and noise within. Although we can be highly sensitive and traumatised as well as creative but lacking the drive to engage the creative potential because everything else is taking up the space and time so that we cannot engage in our creative self.
A highly sensitive person will have an innate ability to create whether that is a piece of art music writing or simply accessing mystical realms; whereas a highly sensitive person because they are so as a result of their upbringing as opposed to being born highly sensitive, will have a more sensitive and more reactive response to the possibility of any danger whether the danger itself is real or not.
When creative potential is engaged know that the chaos have passed, as long as the creativity is real and not a mental exercise, an egocentric trip of the mind.
Whichever way you came to be highly sensitive, what’s paramount is the awareness of who you are and what you can handle. If you were born a highly sensitive person and had a traumatic childhood, chances are you are overwhelmed and cannot access your sense of purpose and suffer from great fatigue isolation and frustration almost numb to all around life stagnating and not knowing how to get back on track. It’s okay, there are no time limits except for what is in the mind. Take all the time you need to regroup rejuvenate and recreate the person you are with the trauma integrated and processed. You need not lose your sensitivity.
The survival of the human race depends on this kind of sensitivity because that will tell us what is coming.
Before we label those who seemingly feel more, let’s take a moment to understand that without their radar working overtime, we as a race would not know how to survive attacks in the wilderness without this sense of knowing. And even in the modern world with wolverines amongst us you never know what next highly sensitive person might just sense – valuable it remains to us even now.
Honour the time to be alone; let go of the guilt and shame, learn to be you, and you alone without the influence of any set of beliefs.
Be you!
Blessings
